Notice of Intention to Marry (NIM)
According to Australian law, at least one party need to complete a 'Notice of Intended Marriage' form at least one month and one day and not more than eighteen months prior to your wedding. If only one signs the other needs to sign before the ceremony can take place.
This normally occurs at the first meeting, but it can be given/sent to your celebrant after you have had it signed by and witnessed by an authorized person. This can be done overseas.
Authorized persons are listed on page 4 of the Notice of Intention to Marry.
The NIM is valid only from when I receive it (that is the date I get it or sign it).
Identification in the form of Driver's Licence, Birth Certificate (translated if not in English) and or Passport are required to be sighted at the time the NIM is witnessed.
